Karen de Lathouder has been the onsite Manager at Mina al Fahal Refinery (Muscat) since 2015. She has over a decade of experience working in a variety of operational roles from asset management in Shell refining, to offshore installation manager for NAM and general manager of the Danish salt operations and operational excellence manager (driving lean transformations in Sweden, the US, Canada, and Brazil) at Akzo Nobel.
At Orpic, Karen runs operations in Muscat, and since February 2016 has also assumed H&S management responsibility. While at Orpic she has blended lean based principles with driving a strong reliability agenda and creating a cultural transformation to drive sustainable/effective HSE delivery in the business. Karen is a Cum Laude PHD graduate in chemical engineering from Delft University of Technology, has an MBA from Erasmus and has an MSc in Chemical Engineering from Delft.
Karen has always been very active in attracting students; in particular girls to STEM studies, amongst others via Dutch organisations as JetNet and Spiegelbeeld (mirror image) by leading and facilitating classroom activities, site visits, speed dating events etc.
